Scherl Family Tree

Until I can figure out how I want to present the documentation that I have on the Scherl Lineage this will be the Scherl Family Tree's Home Page. The genealogy charts are being maintained at the following web address: http://familytrees.genopro.com/472559/chuckscherl/default.htm. YOU WILL NEED TO USE MICROSFT'S INTERNET EXPLORER. I have not been abe to get it to work fith FireFox or Chrome. If you see a persons box (male) or circle (female) in blue, that means that there is a page on this website dedicated to this person with more information.

At http://scherlfamily.net/scherlfamilytree.html I am posting links, in the left pane to copies of sources for the genealogy. In the left bar I am setting up a page for each individual where I have news clipping, picture, etc. If you have any memorabilia of this type please forward it to me and I will post it. If you have specific memories of ANY of our ancestors, or even heard stories about them, I would love to post these also.

Here are some of the observations and discoveries that I have found while researching the Scherl Branch of the Family:

  • According to the records for St. John Nepomuk's Parish in Parabutsch (Parabuty also Paripas), Hungary (now Ratkovo, Serbia) in the 1800's the Scherl name was spelled "Scherdl", interchangeably in the Birth, Marriage and Death Registers.

  • The interior of the of St. John Nepomuk's Church is very similar to the interior of the old St. Joseph's Church which used to be at the corner of Wick and Rayen Avenues in Youngstown.

  • There are several other instances of the Scherl name dating back to the 1500's in Germany. There is a branch, that are all Jewish Scherl. I do not know if they are related to us. But I suspect that at one time the Scherl's we Jewish. Maybe I can discover this .... You just never know.

  • While our branch of the family came to the United States in the early 1900's there are many occurances of the Scherls who came to the US in the 1880's ... all from Germany. I will be researching these roots to see if there is any documentable connection.

  • I have posted, or will be posting the Parish Registers for your edification and enjoyment. I also have a map of the Village with the with the address that correlate very nicely with the addresses in the various registers.

The Fitch side (Grandma Alice) looks to me like there is a lineage back to Charlemagne (see Magna Carta Lineage) and beyond. I have posted the information that I got from Grandma and have verified it through a variety of genealogy websites. It is as accurate at least as far as what seems to be generally accepted. The the Fitch's first arrived in North America in Colonial times.Fram Grandpa Ivar's branch, I have a document written in Norwegian that documents the Soelbergs at least as far back as the late 1800's. It goes back even farther through the Haanshuus line. These too will be posted.

The Griggs line is also well documented. This branch also goes back to colonial times. I'll get around to posting this info on the website also. So.... it seems that we are more English, than German or Norwegian.
